Recently, a judgment became final in one of Claudia & Partners Legal Services’ (CPLS) client’s court cases. The client was awarded damages due to an attack which was found to have resulted from the victim’s ethnicity, skin colour and race.

The case garnered attention as the defendant attacked his physically disabled, foreign neighbour, in the apartment building where they resided, and an eyewitness testified to him having made racist remarks, related to the attack. It is uncommon for Icelandic courts to conclude that criminal acts result from ethnicity, skin colour and race – but the judge did so here, with reference to sufficient evidence.
